Part 1 establishes the foundational framework for understanding how biomechanics and interoceptive awareness converge to influence patient outcomes in neuromusculoskeletal practice. This five-hour module bridges traditional mind-body approaches with cutting-edge neuroscience, exploring how internal body awareness—interoception—shapes physical movement, emotional regulation, pain perception, and patient agency. You’ll journey from the evolution of biopsychosocial models through the neuroscience of the insula and interoceptive integration, discovering why breath serves as the gateway to awareness and behavioral change.
Current research demonstrates that patients with heightened interoceptive awareness show significantly improved outcomes, enhanced compliance, and reduced pain recurrence. This module addresses the growing recognition that lasting therapeutic outcomes require integration of physical and behavioral interventions—moving beyond passive manipulation to actively engage patients through enhanced self-awareness and personal agency.
Through progressive hours covering theory and clinical practice, you’ll learn to observe and document interoceptive awareness of breath and postural patterns, including taking an Interoceptive Posture Picture (IPP) to benchmark patient progress. The module explores the StrongPosture® Interoceptive F.E.E.L. Method—a systematic biobehavioral strategy that implements the ACE approach (Awareness → Control → Environment) to promote lasting postural self-care and empower patients to understand and inhabit their bodies more fully.
