Biomechanics & Interoception: Biobehavioral Approach Pt 4
[5 CE HRS] This culminating module integrates validated documentation tools with advanced clinical applications and case examples, empowering you to guide patients from acute care through successful aging by systematically linking internal body awareness to external reality.
Biomechanics & Interoception: Biobehavioral Approach Pt 4
Part 4: Strengthening Somatic Awareness and Mindful Movement
Linking BioBehavioral LifeHabits from Rehab to Revitalization to Successful Aging
Instructor: Dr. Steven Weiniger, DC, DIANM, CPEP
Course Hours: 5 CE
Part 4 brings the full biobehavioral framework together, exploring how mindful interoceptive awareness addresses chronic pain and the complexity of aging. Building on Nobel laureate Hans Selye’s recognition of stress’s role in disease and aging—beginning with postural distortions—this module examines the untapped potential of mindset and motion to bridge biopsychosocial and biomechanical frameworks. You’ll discover how metabolism battles entropy across biological scales, and learn why interoceptively mindful activity serves as a self-care approach that not only prevents pain but also supports healthy aging by shifting behaviors and building congruence between perceived somatic awareness and objective reality (Perception to Reality – P2R).
This module provides comprehensive documentation strategies that integrate the Upper Posture Awareness Questionnaire (uPAQ) with validated psychological instruments including the Five Facet Mindfulness Questionnaire (FFMQ) and Multidimensional Assessment of Interoceptive Awareness (MAIA). You’ll learn to systematically track somatic interoceptive changes over time with measurable clinical outcomes and actionable self-care strategies. Special attention is given to inter-professional applications for post-traumatic disruption of interoceptive perception, including concussion and mTBI protocols using the Balance Error Scoring System (BESS) to document and address headaches, disturbed sleep, emotional control issues, and impaired decision-making through advanced Stork and dynamic walking exercises.
The course culminates with strategies for awakening the hidden interoceptive sense in your NMS practice—moving patients from healing to thriving. You’ll master individualized treatment development using StrongPosture® insights and cueing that connects patient effort and experience to explore and expand their functional range of control. Through case examples and systematic progressions from arcs and segmental motion to global movement patterns, you’ll learn to apply the Interoceptive FEEL Method across the continuum of care—from acute injury through performance optimization to promoting life habits for living well and successful aging—amplifying the effectiveness of traditional manual therapy by linking internal body signals to greater congruence with external reality.
