Ethical Coding for Chiropractic (5 CE)
Instructor: Dr. Evan Gwilliam, DC, MBA, BS
Certified Professional Coder, and Certified Professional Medical Auditor – CPC CCPC QMCC CPMA CPCO AAPC Fellow
This focused 5-hour continuing education course is designed specifically for chiropractors seeking to master ethical coding and documentation practices. Participants will gain comprehensive, actionable insights into ICD-10 coding conventions, diagnostic statement construction, evaluation and management protocols, chiropractic manipulative treatment codes, and therapeutic procedure documentation.
The program provides an in-depth exploration of ICD-10 coding, enabling practitioners to distinguish between various coding conventions and their application in chiropractic documentation. Participants will learn to analyze diagnosis code hierarchies, correctly identify and code top diagnostic conditions, and construct comprehensive diagnostic statements that support accurate code assignment.
Participants will receive detailed guidance on evaluation and management coding, including differentiation between new and established patient requirements and applying appropriate Medical Decision-Making documentation strategies. The course will comprehensively address Chiropractic Manipulative Treatment (CMT) codes, teaching practitioners to select and document these codes with precision and understand the nuanced application of CPT modifiers in chiropractic billing.
The training will further develop participants’ proficiency in documenting therapeutic procedures, with a specific focus on 971XX codes and diagnostic test coding. Special emphasis will be placed on X-ray imaging documentation and creating effective, compliant medical reports.
By the end of this course, chiropractors will have developed a robust understanding of ethical coding principles, enhanced their documentation accuracy, and gained the skills necessary to confidently and responsibly navigate the complex landscape of medical coding and compliance.
