Posture is a fundamental aspect of body balance, and its weakening can have significant consequences for health and mortality. Studies have shown that balance and coordination exercises can improve back pain and reduce the risk of fall-related injuries, which are particularly prevalent among aging populations. However, postural balance training remains a neglected aspect of many exercise programs.

Part 4 of this online chiropractic education course focuses on progressing B.A.M. StrongPosture® retraining with progressive core integration, with a particular emphasis on successful aging. The module benchmarks static posture and dynamic balance, providing a means for comparison and measurable improvement.

Sedentary workers and aging individuals, in particular, are at risk of developing postural restrictions in flexion, which can significantly impact movement and function. The course will explore the importance of strengthening posture as people age, not only for rehabilitating injuries but also for maintaining mobility and functionality as they continue to age. Professionals will learn why and how posture care can play a critical role in keeping people moving well and enjoying an active lifestyle throughout their lives.

The Posture & Balance course integrates clinical strategies for passive therapies with active strategies for functionally strengthening posture. Systematic protocols for building personal awareness are integrated with exercises to strengthen standing Balance, static Alignment and dynamic Motion. Three eponymous tracks of tightly defined exercises systematically progress the person to more accurately connect their body perception and motion to objective reality. Patient-friendly concepts of postural bio-mechanics use 5 common-sense principles, and are presented along with each exercise for congruent patient education towards understanding and adopting intelligent postural habits.

Functionally strengthening posture means observing and then correcting sensorimotor errors between perceived posture and motion and external reality. Systematically retraining granular motion and whole body compensatory and adaptive patterns towards accuracy is an important yet often overlooked factor in clinical NMS practices.
